Maintenance Tech

Primary Purpose:     General maintenance technician responsibilities:  Operates, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components. Applies proven maintenance skills in assessing equipment malfunctions and restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of maintenance and assists engineering with small project work.  Supports PM and P/PM programs, willing to take hands on lead in a PM area of focus.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

General Maintenance:

  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, electrical systems. Share PM and work order load with other technicians.
  • Fabricate objects using solid fabrication skills such as guards, small welding repairs, small projects, etc.
  • Inspect, install, repair pipes, fittings, valves, pumps, exchangers, compressors, etc. for material conveying air, water, oil and drainage systems. Cut, bend and thread pipes, assemble and hang.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic problems, including PLC I/O problems and instrumentation in the field
  • Perform preventive maintenance and work closely with operators to keep lines running efficiently
  • Follow safety procedures at all times, safe work habits, and use proper safety equipment when performing various jobs. Keep areas clean and free of safety hazards
  • Log repairs on a daily basis, works as a team with on-shift supervisor and attends shift change meetings to effectively communicate status and concerns from shift to shift
  • Assist with changeovers on the extrusion lines, when necessary

 

Electronics/PLC-related responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment used in the manufacturing process
  • Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, including basic knowledge of relevant safety codes
  • Assist Engineering with PLC, HMI, and VSD troubleshooting as requested
  • Assist with machinery installations, upgrade projects, small panel building, building maintenance
  • Ability to bend and install conduit, pull wiring including communications cabling
  • Able to terminate Ethernet and other communications cabling
  • Complete all other projects or tasks assigned by Manager

Education and Experience: 

  • Associates Degree in an engineering or maintenance field with 2-3 years experience, or maintenance related certificate with 4-5 years experience, or equivalent job experience (6-7+ years in industrial maintenance); sound industrial electrical skills a requirement
  • Working understanding of PLC systems as well as drives, motors, relative to equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Troubleshooting level skills within RSLogix 5000 environment a big plus
  • Ability to interpret hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and architectural prints
  • Sound planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn new processes quickly and troubleshoot difficulties while upholding integrity, quality, and work standards
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills, ability to use hand and shop power tools safely
  • Understanding of Lean Principles, 5S, Root Cause Analysis a plus

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to be on factory floor for long periods of time, potentially full shift
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, or carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to crouch, bend, stand and be alert.
  • Ability to perform equipment maintenance tasks that may require standing, bending, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling, or twisting.
  • Requires full range of motion of arms, hands and fingers to reach, grasp, hold, push or pull, twist, and work with tools.
  • React quickly
  • 40+ hours/week to support manufacturing performance
  • Must be able to climb and work on ladders
